Thousands of lovers around the world will convey their feelings of love with Red Roses every Valentines day and several growers in Hosur, Bangalore and Pune are celebrating equally valentine 2008.
The demand for red roses grown in India has gone up 25 to 30% and it is expected to be fueled further if the political turmoil in Kenya continues. Growers in Bangalore, Hosur and rest of the country are gearing up to export lakhs of roses to world markets. Prices for red roses depend on their colour and the length of the stem; those with stem length of 70 cm can fetch about Rs 25 per stem, while stems of one meter length go for Rs 40.
Last year the prices of roses did shot up equally in Delhi market. The price for red roses went beyond Rs.20 per stem. Growers in India peak their production cycle to coincide with every valentines day cycle and production per hectare can be as high as 150,000 roses in just 10days during valentines season.
